Coffee culture is no stranger to the South Ubangi province, where the crop is known as the “green diamond” and serves as the primary source of income. Its fertile farmlands are perfectly suited for growing Robusta coffee. But in the early 2000s, tracheomycosis (a fungal disease) and long-term conflict destroyed 80% of the coffee plantations. The poor state of the road network also drove buyers away between 2000 and 2010.
Nevertheless, the community remains resilient and is joining forces with Congodorpen and its partner organization, CDI-Bwamanda, to breathe new life into the sector.
Read on to discover how this process works and the role you can play in it.
Vision
Congodorpen believes in the cooperatives and coffee farmers of South Ubangi, who specialize in Robusta coffee. We provide support in plantation preparation as well as in the processing and marketing (both national and international) of the coffee.
In this way, we hope to collectively increase the quantity and quality of the coffee, thereby ensuring a stable income for farming families and the community as a whole. This, in turn, secures access to basic services such as healthcare and education.
